Pause for Tales

Locks, Hooks and Books

Paws.Read.Repeat

With fun, bright, and colorful illustrations, little ones are taken along with Charlie as he realizes how restricting his pickiness can be. Lots of things, food, other clothes, and fun are somewhat closed off to him as he simply doesn't want to try them out. I like that the author showed that Charlie just might be a little fearful to try new things out, and maybe that is the way with a lot of children.

The writing style is sure to engage young readers with its rhymes, they may even find themselves with a serious case of “the giggles”. The illustrations are gorgeous. With bright colors and a level of depth that brings the story to life.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would love to see it in all childcare centers and schools. The messaging is spot on and the story leaves readers feeling brave enough to tackle their fear of the unknown. My favorite part of this book is the end. The author made space for the reader to reflect on themselves by writing their own story then drawing a picture to go with their story.

enjoyed this installment and the first introduction to Charlie. It was entertaining to see what awaited him. I loved the rhyming verses on the pages. I never knew what would happen with him from page to page. His journey included getting dressed, swimming (or not), making friends, playing, camping, etc. I like how Charlie had to face his fears and see how he will find joy when he takes the chance. I thought it was a good lesson for readers to learn from.

I love the sentiments in this book. Charlie learns much about himself as well as the world around him. I like how it encourages young readers to try things outside of their comfort zone.

This was a great read with silly rhyming that had my kiddos giggling. The book encourages kids to try new things they are afraid of or not accustomed to because who wants to eat peanut butter and wear the same clothes everyday? Well, Charlie did at first, of course. The illustrations are bright, vibrant, and fantastically captured Charlie’s emotions when offered something new or when sticking to his usual. My daughters enjoyed it and I highly recommend it.

Charlie Chaloosy Is Often Quite Choosy is such a fun title. Say it out loud. It rolls off the tongue. I did. I read this entire fun, rhyming book out loud. I’d turn each page. Study the delightful illustrations. Then I’d read the page out loud. It made me grin through the entire book. Imagine how much more fun it would be if you were reading it to a young one.

The story is told in rhymes and has colorful illustrations that my grandson loves. We’ll be reading this book many times over the next few months. I hope to read more Charlie Chaloosy books to my grandkids! It’s definitely a fun and helpful book for any child’s library.

This is a really cute book. It helped teach a lesson, which is always very important in kid lit books. To be educational as well as fun to read. In this book, readers meet Charlie. Charlie is very picky about his food, clothing, and activites.

He soon realizes that by not willing to try new things, he has isolated himself from making new friend. Charlie learns that trying new things is exciting. He makes new friends and even eat a smore. What is really cool about this book is that the last two pages of it are blank to allow your child to draw and write up their own story.

Through relatable characters and scenarios, the book tells an enjoyable story while teaching useful life lessons. The fanciful, expressive illustrations add in a wealth of details that would fascinate young readers and make them chuckle with delight.

The contrast in Charlie before and after he makes the changes showcases the incredible joy of adventure, encouraging little ones to overcome their fears and experience something different from their regulars. Moreover, the story ends with a hearty invite for the readers to write and illustrate their own stories in the space provided at the back.

Easy and fun to read, this makes a pleasant pick for budding bookworms. I look forward to seeing more books coming in the Charlie Chaloosy series.
